And the winner is….

Ok, so you’ll have to wait for me to stop rambling… but I have to admit I almost forgot to post the winner. I’ve been so busy over the last couple of weeks with one thing or another, photography, training, home life… Anyway I’m sure you know how it is!

So without further ado…. The winner is…

…nope not yet… I’m not quite ready to tell you. I feel a little like Simon Cowell (without the high pants & smarmy smile) so I’m going to stretch this out!

The reason I’ve been so busy this January:

1. The urban wedding shoot in Leeds, learnt so much and got some really great ideas for the weddings I have booked later in the year.

2. I’ve decided to revamp my website/blog. I have a really clear idea of how I want it to look, and some new ideas on how to make it easier to navigate & I’d like to make it a little more “me” so I’m thinking about some video blog posts – eek.

3. An online photography course via fantastic wedding photographers over in America. in fact I’m doing another one next weekend for Boudoir photography – so if you fancy an unusual valentines treat for your other half get in touch!  I’m looking for a couple of ladies to practice on!

4. We celebrated Sophie’s 8th birthday with a family party and lots of  games.

5. I finally finished my wedding “welcome pack” and got together with some lovely wedding suppliers to mutally recommend each other.  They include:

If you get in touch with any of these lovely ladies be sure to mention my name!

6. There was a little design work for www.roobarbgifts.co.uk – see their new postcard here.

7. Making and breaking more resolutions than I could possible list!  Ok, so I started the year with great intentions.  All positivity and gratefullness… until Andrew got a chest infection (and his snores could be heard echoing round the house – I think even Max prefered to be outside), I got tooth ache (how unbelievably painful is that?), other unexpected stuff and just generally starting the year feeling a little fed up!  January is always a little quiet from a photography point of view, just glad it’s now over!  Thankfully February is shaping up to be a brillant month and is mainly going to consist of engagement shoots, a couple of kids shoots, a family shoot and various commercial shoots and when I can fit it in, redesigning the site!

So finally and with great pleasure I can announce that the winner is Sasha Perkins. Congratulations Sasha, you win a  family shoot (in a mutally agreeable location) which must be taken before then end of March and a free 15 x10 print. {Sasha please get in touch so we can arrange the session!}.

Urban Wedding Shoot – Leeds Wedding Photographer

Yesterday I took part in an urban wedding shoot in the centre of Leeds with various photographers; arranged by Chris Chambers Photography.

I’ve got a couple of city centre weddings booked later in the year, so really wanted a few tips and location ideas, and to also have a play around with styles of photography that I wouldn’t normally try. (I’ve also done a full review of the day on my other blog www.photographers-boutique.blogspot.com).

Gemma and Nick were our cute couple for the day, and braved the freezing temperatures and crowds of shoppers to help us all with our portfolios. The highlight for me was watching how the other photographers work, and seeing the images they produced and the angles they chose. Plus I got some great tips & help from Chris , a very successful wedding photographer in Yorkshire.

We tried a number of locations with a real urban feel to them, including a graffiti wall near Leeds train station, the pedestrian area outside Harvey Nichols and then the stunning Town Hall. I also had a go with off camera lighting, which I have to admit was a little hit and miss. I’m a real believer in natural light where possible (so much more flattering than flash) and usually only use flash for reception lighting – but there really is a place for it and I need to hone my skills! Here are the images (there are a lot of them….I warned you).

Feel free to leave a comment, as I’m not entirely sure that I would describe the photos as being particularly urban – I always seem to revert to my own style even under someone else’s direction…

I think I’m going to like city centre weddings – there’s so much variety for the backgrounds and with the beautiful buildings found in most city’s it really easy to get beautiful, classic looking images, which won’t date (or make you cringe in 10 years time).

So if you’re thinking of having a city wedding get in touch at Maryanne.madden@gmail.com – I’d love to have a chat with you!

I’ve finally finished my new welcome pack for couples who book their wedding with me for 2012/13.

I like to keep it really simple so I always use eco-friendly kraft paper and simple ribbons.  I include important information about the big day, and details of all my favoutite vendors!  In fact I’m always on the look out for new wedding businesses to join up with – so if you have something you think my brides and grooms might like, just get in touch.

News from The Grange – Wedding photographer, Leeds

Today’s post is a quick one, and has very little to do with anything!  I got a new lens yesterday a 16-35mm f/2.8 (Thanks to Andrew) and was in desperate need of using it!

It was dark & frosty outside, so I did the only thing any self respecting photo obsessed person would do…I took pictures of my bedroom – and quite frankly, Andrew & Max should be grateful that I didn’t need their involvement!  Thankfully though the bedroom had been recently decorated (notice the lack of photos in the frames above…).  So here we go, photos from my lovely new lens.  I had hoped this morning would bring more sunshine and frost so the intention was to get outside for sunrise… good job it was raining as I missed sunrise by a long way!!

On a side note, I’ll be showing some new wedding images in the next week or so, and I have a couple of lovely lifestyle family shoots booked, so come back soon!

Voucher Design for www.roobarbgifts.co.uk

Something a little different on the blog today.  I did a little bit of design work recently for www.roobarbgifts.co.uk, a discount voucher which will also be included within my “welcome” pack that goes out to all brides!  I really love the design side of packaging and enjoy using photoshop, so combine the two…

If you’re in need of new leaflets, postcards, generally any sort of marketing design, get in touch.

Love the life you live, Live the life you love – Family Photographer, Wakefield

At the start of each year, I always feel a need for a little self improvement.  Obviously this thought slips down the list of important things as wedding season approaches and the year progresses however for a short while I’m all in!

My current reading obsessions are “self help books” – though not like something Bridget Jones might read (how to keep your man, loose 150lbs and quit smoking all in an hour…) The general themes of the ones I’ve read recently are of positivity and gratitude. Which reminds me of Nikki’s tattoo from a photo session last year, which I thought was cute:

Love the life you live, Live the life you love

In fact there’s this famous person (bear with me as I don’t have his name) who starts the day  in that few moments of calm before he rushes off to work (or a party) by focusing on things to be grateful for? Even if its just that he has toothpaste, and he actually woke up that morning (we won’t mention his millions, penthouse and model girlfriend which might also make him happy). I suppose if you’re being grateful for something you can’t start the day feeling negative, so you cant have a bad day!

Ok, so I’m rambling like some new age, evangelical freak, but hopefully you get my point???

So if you fancy getting yourself into a positive frame of mind in 2012, and focusing on the good things in life, try one of these books. Though they might not immediately be your cup of tea, there really are good things to be taken from them (once you get over the American style of writing – not sure how they manage it, but you can imagine them hi-fiving as they write it)! I’m especially loving The happiness Project.

The Secret

The Artists Way

The happiness project

So today I’m being grateful for what I have and I’m positive about all the possibilities in 2012. And if you’re new to this blog, I will eventually get round to posting some new photo session, I’m just easing myself into the new year – so come back soon. x
