Portraits

You have made a good decision to invest in professional portrait photography.  With specialised attention to all the details that go into creating your custom portraits, I design precisely the portraits that you wish to own and display in your home.

Your Custom portrait experience promises to be fun, relaxed and upbeat and will showcase you and your family’s unique personalities and the relationships you share with each other.Your portraits are individually toned, enhanced and finished on the highest quality of fine arts paper, canvas and mounting surface, for beautiful, custom-made pieces of art that you will be proud to display in your home.

If this is your first experience with custom photography, you may be a little unfamiliar with the process of the portrait experience.  There are many important details involved with your custom photography experience, and the more you understand the process the more you can enjoy the experience.

Reserving your Custom Portrait experience

Upon deciding to invest in custom portrait photography we will discuss the type of experience you are interested in reserving, as well as possible dates that will fit both of our schedules.

Upon verbal agreement of your reservation you will have 7 days to pay your portrait session fee, I will send you an email request (where you will be able to pay via debit/credit card or Paypal) or you can send a cheque to 19 Windhill Rise, Woolley Grange, S75 5RJ.

Getting to know you

I like to get to know a little bit about you before the session.  I will usually send a quick questionnaire which will simply ask about your/families likes and dislikes and unique qualities you may possess etc.  It’s nice to get to know you before the session so that you feel relaxed and we can have fun together.

The Details of your Portrait Art

Prior to your custom photography session I will be in touch to discuss everything from location and time, clothing choices unique to the nature of the art style you desire, to artistic options and display ideas.  We can even meet for a coffee if you prefer?

Your Portrait Session

A little reminder – I will contact you a couple of days prior to your custom photography session to confirm and remind you of your reservation (usually by email or text).

Allow 2 hours in your Calendar – You can expect your custom photography experience to last anywhere from ½ hour to two hours in time, depending on the nature of the session and the number of guests (and ages…).

Variety - I will aim to create portraits using both natural and more classic styles of photography.  You and/or your family will be invited to change your attire as much as necessary to achieve the portraits you wish to own.  If the session involves your family, I will capture a selection of portraits to showcase the individual as well as the relationship they share with one another.

Be prepared to be in the Portraits with your Baby

If you have booked a newborn or child session I will suggest that you will be in some of the images.  This is optional but doesn’t require any additional investment.

Clothing recommendations

Babies - Less is more. I prefer to shoot newborns in their birthday suits/in a nappy. Beanies and knit items look great, as do headbands.

For 3-9 months, bright coloured nappy covers for boys and little tutus for girls look amazing.

Toddlers - Bright colours!

Kids - Bright colours. Solid polo shirts are great for little boys. Jumpers or cute dresses are great for girls. Also if the child has any cute head-gear (caps, headbands etc…)

For Families- If you want to match, I would suggest everyone to wear the similar colour tops/ shirts with jeans, but not necessarily the same style. If you are cool with doing whatever, Wear a similar colour scheme, but no one wearing the same colour.

Tweens- You don’t have to match anyone, lucky you! Embrace your style; you are most comfortable and will photograph the best when you are wearing your favourite outfit (you know, the one that you look great in). I love layers, scarves, hats, gloves (some of these are winter items…). Bright colours and patterns are great too. Feel free to bring props which show your personality: Guitar, violin, books etc…

Maternity – Wear clothing that really shows off that baby belly! Empire styles dresses are beautiful and show off your belly nicely. Form fitting tops or shirts with an over sweater add layers and texture to an image. I like to have my maternity clients where jewellery. With the emphasis being on the belly for the session and a lot of up close images of the belly a nice bracelet or ring really adds more visual appeal.

What not to wear

  • Anything you feel uncomfortable in – it will show in the images

Presentation and selection of your portraits

I try to show a couple of my favourites on my website a few days after the session then I’ll be in touch approximately two weeks after your session to arrange to view your images.

You will be presented with between 25 and 50 images to choose from (though usually many more) and you will then have the option to buy gift prints, enlargements, Canvas’s and session coffee table books & Framed prints – or simply buy the digital images!
