Following on from the newborn session I wrote about yesterday, I thought it was important for people to know what to expect. Newborn sessions take more preparation and definitely more time, but is there anything more gorgeous than a newborn baby?
They almost seem to change and grow right before my eyes, so it’s lovely if you can capture this tiny, peaceful stage forever, especially as a year down the line you’ll cherish every image of those first days because they’ll never be that small again.
My style for newborn photography is a little different from the rest of my photographic work. I take a simple approach, there are no background distractions, and the colours are muted so that your newborn is the main focus of the image.
In order to create the perfect newborn portrait, there are a few guidelines to follow:
“When should I schedule my newborn session?”
To insure the sleepy, curly newborn poses, I advise scheduling a newborn session within 10 days after delivery.
“How long will my newborn photography session take?”
Newborn photography sessions take at least 2 hours and, depending on the baby’s disposition, may take longer.

“Where will the session take place?”
I prefer to go on location to the client’s house for newborn sessions. This way, everyone is comfortable and all the baby’s necessities are easily accessible. Newborns are also surrounded by the familiar sounds and scents of home.
“How do I prepare for my newborn photography session?”
To prepare your home for a newborn session, I suggest you do the following things:
1) Open all of the blinds/curtains in the house and turn off all of the house lights. When I arrive, I will look for the best source of natural light to do the session.
2) About an hour before your session, turn your house temperature to around 80-85 degrees. Newborns love to be warm, especially if you’d like them to be naked.
3) We need a quiet atmosphere to keep your baby calm and asleep. Please keep young children and other distractions that could cause startling loud noises out of earshot.
4) Its best to make sure your newborn is well fed and sleepy.
5) I love capturing moments with Mum, Dad, and other siblings, so I hope you’ll be happy to be in the photos too!

“What should my baby wear?”
The choice is entirely yours, whether it’s completely naked or with a nappy, it’s up to you. I’ll bring a number of blankets, baskets etc, however if you have a favourite blanket just let me know.
After the session I’ll then process/enhance the photos and then hopefully be able to give you a sneak preview on my website in a couple of days. The remaining photos will be available for you to view on your own private gallery a couple of weeks later.
The newborn session fee is £75 and covers my time & skills, you’ll then have the option to buy any prints, canvas’s or session albums.
