Red is a very popular colour for family pictures, especially with the christmas just around the corner. But red is also a tricky color to coordinate in photos, the reason: it dominates. The trick to creating a balanced family portrait is spreading the red (so your eyes will naturally travel around the photo) and choosing a base (colour) that will help keep it’s vibrancy under control. In this example I used browns and dark denim – it makes the colour more of a compliment than a distraction. Try to pick different parts of each persons outfit to add a splash of red to (you don’t want everyone in bright red jumpers).
Oh and another handy tip: If you choose to wear denim in your family photos, make sure everyone is wearing a similar colour. If the whole family is wearing dark except for mum who is wearing a light wash, she will stick out like a sore thumb.
